Winners & Bucket List News!

Time to announce the winner from my previous contest here on the website. Congrats to Debra S. of Minneapolis! You’ll be receiving a copy of  Touch of a Thief!

Last Monday, my guest blogger was Shana Galen. The winner of one of her books is Anne Brown-Speer. Robin D will receive one of mine. If you didn’t win this time, be sure to pop back next Monday when my blog guest will be the lovely and talented Ashley March!

Paul Revere

Now to my bucket list news… I can cross off an item on the personal list: Walk the Freedom Trail. Over the weekend, we took the T to downtown Boston and embarked on this roughly 3 mile trek. We visited the State House, Boston Common, several burial grounds, the Old North Church and Paul Revere’s home–the oldest house extant in Boston proper. (As a side note, we learned that Mr. Revere fathered 16 children, 11 of whom reached adulthood. It’s easy to forget that in other times, it was a rare family that didn’t bury at least one child. Made me feel very blessed to live now.)

Humpback at Stellwagen Bank

We also went whale-watching over the weekend.  If you follow my blog, you know last year we sailed out on very rough seas and got skunked. This year, we hit the jackpot. We viewed a pair of humpback whales up close and personal for a good hour as they surfaced and submerged multiple times.

Our pictures don’t do the experience justice. It was such a thrill to hear the spout and see their great heads breach the surface. Then we watched as their long bodies rose in a graceful arc to be followed by a slow wave of the flukes. They seemed as curious about us as we were about them.

It was a very worthy end to my summer. How about you? Did you do anything special this summer you’d like to share? Have you crossed off an item on your bucket list? I look forward to hearing from YOU.

I got to Boston for the first time in August. Took one of those city bus tours & a harbor cruise – great fun & very informative.

It was a bit before summer, but we went to New Orleans in March. It was on my bucket list . I had asked my husband to go long before Katrina hit. I figured it had recovered sufficiently to visit, so I made reservations and took him there for his birthday. There is more than one way to get what I want ; ) We had an enjoyable time, but didn’t get to see all we wanted in the area. Our daughter has a wedding to attend there in January, so we are going again. We get to stay another week, and they get to come for the weekend and have a babysitter for their, by then, 7 month old while they go to the wedding. Great trade off for us. They get a night out without worrying about a sitter and we get to play with our granddaughter.
My husband has rotator cuff surgery the first week of October. Once he is well enough, we will be taking some short trips. There are several places not too far from where we live that are on my list.

Yay for ticking off an item on your Bucket List, Pat. What fun that you get to spend time with your grandbaby. Hope your DH has a speedy recovery. I know the physical therapy after that sort of surgery is painful.

Your jaunts both on land and sea sound grand … I am in awe of your ability to take the time for fun in your life! The whale-watching sounds extra special to me, except for the on-a-small-boat-in-the-ocean part :0 ! And congrats on ticking off another of your Bucket List … you’re quite an achiever, Mia!!

If I don’t have a life, I don’t have anything to write about, Marcy. Ideas are in the air, but they rarely hover only over my writing chair. Sometimes, the solution to a plot problem or a sticky bit of dialogue comes to me while I’m doing something else.
