Cyber House-Warming

Coming May 2011

"Absolutely terrific!"~ Victoria Alexander

Welcome to Read, Write, Love, my blog here on my new online home. I hope you’ll bookmark it and make my place a regular destination on your cyber-journeys. Lots of writer’s blogs have a single focus–all their books all the time. Being midwestern by birth, that’s not how I roll. Still others choose a narrow niche–how to become published, how to balance writing with real life, nuts and bolts for grammar geeks, etc. This is not one of those blogs.

My approach is more scattered. I write about whatever I’m pondering or doing at the time. That means you may be treated to a litle armchair traveling. For example, last November I blogged each day during my trip to Amsterdam. You may also learn more than you wanted to know about arcane historical tidbits that turn up in my research, but don’t find their way into my books. Check the Travel and History categories for a taste of what to expect.

I don’t do reviews, but if I read a stellar book, I’ll certainly blog about it here. I also invite my author friends to guest blog often. You never know who will pop up.

Mia's online critique group

Because writing is such a big part of my life, I have a regular feature here called Red Pencil Thursday. It’s an online critique group, featuring a volunteer who agrees to take their bath in public so we can all learn a bit.  If you’d like to be a victim, er, I mean volunteer, please drop me an email for more details. No snarkines is allowed. I promise a constructive experience. I’ve been helped so much by other authors. This is my chance to give back a bit.

Last August I started working on a Bucket List of items I wanted to accomplish before Touch of a Thief‘s release. Some of the things are practical. Some are outrageous. We’ll see how I do with them because as I tick them off, I’ll blog about it here. Check out the list and see how I’m doing!

If you frequent my blog, you’ll learn a good bit about my life, writing and otherwise. And I hope to learn about yours. I’ve been blessed to have a loyal core of regular commenters and I hope you’ll join in the discussion.

Since this is the first blog here on my new site, I’d like to encourage you to share your thoughts about my new cyber home. If you notice a link isn’t working or if something seems off, please let me know. If you love the site, of course I’d be tickled to hear about that too. While you’re here, be sure to enter my contest and poke around all the pages.

The colors and design of your new site are fabulous. Picked me right up after shoveling out from last night’s blizzard.

    Hi Mary,
Thanks for being one of my beloved betas!

For those of you who have never done it, beta testing is a very involved process, requiring patience, lots of time and a keen eye. Thanks so much to the eight hearty souls who volunteered to help me with QA on my new cyber-home.

  12. Mia Marlowe says:

Thanks, Marcy. I always love reading your comments.

Nynke–You caught me in a typo–again. But wait! “Snarkines” could be the technical term for ones who habitually leave comments that are clever, but unkind. Fortunately, few ever show up on my blog.

I think we’ve created a new word together.

  14. Mary says:

    Hi Mia,

Just looking around at your fabulous new site.

  15. Marcy Weinbeck says:

Good catch, Nynke! And I’ll vote ‘yes’, too, on “always love reading your blog”.

  16. Nynke says:

I always love reading your blog! I do wonder what kind of creatures ‘snarkines’ are, though ;).
