Romance Book Club Alert
A book club was recently started in my building and I experienced the joy of sharing what I read. Though we found plenty of things to discuss about our first novel, I couldn’t help thinking it would have been helpful to have a discussion guide from the author. With that in mind, I’d like to offer my guide for Touch of a Thief in case you belong to a club that would enjoy a historical romance.
About the Book
Touch of a Thief is the first novel in Mia’s Touch of Seduction series. Each of the three stories features a character with a psychometric gift—the ability to perceive information not readily apparent by other means through touch. In this book, the heroine Viola Preston receives visions from gem stones of their past owners’ lives. A difficult proposition, since the lady is a jewel thief.
Do you accept the premise that Lady Viola has a psychometric gift? What price does her ability exact in exchange for the special insights she receives from it?
Adoption was not legal in Great Britain until well into the 20th century. How did this affect the Doctrine of Lapse that cost Prince Sanjay his kingdom?
Why do you think Greydon Quinn is so adamant about fairness? How does his brother’s death in childhood affect him?
How is Viola’s experience of losing everything when her father dies without a direct male heir similar to Sanjay’s when his father dies?
Lady Viola was quietly ‘ruined’ by Neville Beauchamp prior to the beginning of this story. Why do you think society in general censures women for sexual experience while it encourages men to experiment?
How does the Sepoy Mutiny impact Greydon? What was the final injustice that led to the revolt of Indian soldiers against their English commanders?
Injustice is a major theme in Touch of a Thief. Can you name some examples of injustice that impact the characters and how they deal with it?
When did you feel Greydon and Viola began to love for each other sacrificially?
If injustice is a major plot mover, are you satisfied that justice has been served to all parties by the end of the story?
Will Greydon be satisfied with life as an English lord? Do you think eventually he’ll convince Viola to travel with him back to India? What adventures will they have together that we’ll never know about?
Thanks for reading and sharing my work with your reading friends! I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it for you.
