Kismet by Monica Burns

Monica BurnsMy guest this hour is Monica Burns. An award-winning author of erotic romance, Monica Burns penned her first short romance story at the age of nine when she selected the pseudonym she uses today. From the days when she hid her stories from her sisters to her first completed full-length manuscript, she always believed in her dream despite rejections and setbacks. A workaholic wife and mother, Monica believes it’s possible for the good guy to win if they work hard enough.

Her trade paperback novel Kismet has just been reissued by Berkley for mass market!

It was a gamble she was born to make…

Raised in a brothel at a young age, Allegra Synnford quickly learned that survival meant taking charge of her destiny. Now, a renowned courtesan skilled in the pleasures of the flesh, she chooses her lovers carefully—vowing never to be vulnerable to any one man. Until a mesmerizing Sheikh strips that control from her…

With a man who wasn’t used to losing.

Sheikh Shaheen of the Amazigh has been hiding from his past for a long time, but not enough to forget how another courtesan made him abandon his life as the Viscount Newcastle. It’s why the yearnings this dangerous temptress ignites within him are so troubling. Worse, thoughts of Allegra pervade every fantasy, threatening to undermine his cover. With old enemies circling, experience tells him he must resist her charms at all cost. In fact, he’s betting on it. That’s a risky wager when it comes to a woman of pleasure. But Allegra has her own reasons for playing games…with a man who can’t afford to lose.
What happens between them is Kismet…

I’ll also be choosing a reader to receive an ebook of my Maidensong for winner’s choice of Kindle or Nook. Like Monica’s Kismet, this story isn’t your typical Regency tale. A ‘maidensong’ is what the Vikings called a love story.

RT BOOKReviews says, “From Scandinavia to the Byzantine slave markets, this steamy love story calls to mind the great mistresses of the genre: Small, Henley and Mason. Filled with forbidden love, betrayal, redemption and hope.”

    Hi Monica!
Congrats for the reissued of Kismet. My question for you , are there reasons to choose Sheikh as your hero?

  8. I am really looking forward to reading this book. I’ve had it on my wish list for months now.

  9. Monica Burns says:

Tina B, at this point the publisher has made no more requests for any Sicari books. I’m hoping in the next 12-18 months to write Draco’s story as folks have been asking for it. I’ll have to self-pub it though, but it’s on the back burner at the moment as I’m focused on two other projects at the moment. Working a day job and writing at night really makes it hard to churn books out. :-D

    1. Tina B says:

I am thankful to read any books that you have written. :)

  10. Monica Burns says:

Katie, The higher price on the eBook is the publisher’s way of driving folks into the bookstore for the hard copy. I do hope you’ll check it out in it’s mass market format.

  11. Monica Burns says:

Crystal, Thanks so much. I’m always thrilled when someone says they loved Kismet.

  12. Monica Burns says:

So glad you love the video. I love helping my designer create exactly the look and feel I want. I generally pick out the graphics and music, hand those off to her with the text and she puts it together.

As to your question, to write a short story of 700 words. LORD, I don’t know that I could write a story that short. I did do a scene post over Christmas at Rambling Chick, and that was about 1100-1200 words I think. You can read it here

  13. Monica Burns says:

May, I hope you check Kismet out. It’s a very special book that was very difficult to write, as the initial draft stirred up a number of really dark memories, which I detailed here.

I hope you enjoy the read

  14. Tina B says:

Congrats on your re-release, Monica! And congrats on your new release, Mia!
Monica, I was wondering if there are more Sicari books in the future? I absolutely LOVE them! Please do not enter me into the contest to win Inferno’s Kiss as I already own it. And WOW is all I have to say about that 1! I haven’t yet read Kismet, but it is on my TBR also. Maidensong sounds like a good story. Thank you.

  15. Katie Lee says:

Wow! I love the title Kismet! It is on my TBR ‘wishlist’ on my nook (but oddly is more expensive in ebook so I’m gonna have to go into the store for this one). <3

  16. CrystalGB says:

Hi Monica. Great trailer. I loved Kismet. Such an awesome book.

  17. Desere Steenberg says:

    Hello Monica,

Wow this video trailer was incredible I loved it ! The book looks soooooo good ! My question for you is if you needed to come up with a short story of say 700 words how quickly would you be able to write it ?

Thanks for the chance to win

  18. Monica Burns says:

Betty, Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m thrilled that Kismet is in the less expensive mass market format so I’m hoping to pick up a few new readers. If you’re on Facebook, but haven’t found my reader page, come chat. I’m very active there!

Again, thank you so much for your kind words!
