I titled this post Hot Dish for a couple reasons. One is that it’s made up of several disjointed ingredients (if you’re from the upper Midwest, you’ll recognize that as the recipe for hotdish–the catch-all casserole made up from whatever’s in the fridge topped with a can of cream of mushroom soup!) And secondly because it ends with some “hot news,” another way of saying “hot dish.”
When I posted my 9 Month Personal and Professional Bucket List, it was because I need to be accountable to someone for my goals. So today, I’ll give you an update.
I’m not getting much traction on #1 on the Personal list. Doing the splits is still a pipe dream, but I’m making some headway on #2. Lose two dress sizes. They say 12 pounds is the difference between one size and the next. I’m down 16.5 pounds from my highest weight, so I’ve dropped one size and I’m happy to report my capris are bearing this out. I’m afraid I may walk out of them unless I start wearing a belt.
On the professional list, I’m working on #1. Read a writing craft book a month. I picked The Weekend Novelist Writes a Mystery. It’s a little heavier on pre-writing and plotting than my pantser soul cares to try, but there are some good ideas and it has me thinking in different directions. Which is the point.
We got the news on my DH’s job. As you know we were on pins, waiting to hear if he’d have a position after his current company is acquired by a mega-corp. I’m thrilled to report that he will. And not only that, he was able to justify the jobs of his team members so none of them will be let go either. Thank you for your prayers and positive thoughts on this issue.
Lastly, I’m blogging for the first time on Brava Authors.com on Monday–Labor Day. Since I’m working on the novella for the Improper Gentlemen anthology (due out July 26, 2011) I’m titling my post “Improper Thoughts.” It’s about avoiding purple prose when writing a love scene. Guaranteed giggles. Since this is my first time on the site, I’d love to light up the comment board. I hope you’ll be able to pop over and join me for a bit. I’ll be asking you to share the most ridiculous purple prose you’ve ever stumbled across.
Hope you have a lovely weekend and if you’re in Earl’s path (as we may be here in New England) stay safe and stay dry.
So how abour you? Have you ever put together a “bucket list” to help you reach your goals? How did it work for you? What was the most exciting thing you ever accomplished that way?
