Do you believe in Fate?
My Moving Party is celebrating a couple of things–the move to my new pen name and my new publisher, Kensington. I’m thrilled to be a new Brava author and would love to introduce you to some of the other fantastic writers from that imprint.
Rebecca Zanetti, a paranormal author, and I sat down over a cup of cyber-coffee for a quick chat recently. Glad you’re here to join us!
Mia: Can you tell us about why you write, Rebecca? What draws you to paranormal stories?
Rebecca: First I’d like to thank Mia for having me here today! Well, that’s an interesting question about why I write. I guess I write to let the voices in my head come out. Paranormal stories are fun to write because there’s no limit—you can create any world you want. For instance, the idea of stone cold vampires with no heat never interested me. So my vamps are hot blooded and enjoy a nice glass of wine once in a while.
Mia: Oh yay! I love a guy with a pulse! Other than that why will we love your hero?
Rebecca: The hero in FATED is Talen Kayrs and he’s the strategic planner for the entire vampire nation. He’s a true alpha and is genuinely confused when things don’t go his way. And by things, I mean the heroine, Cara. She’s a single mom, a scientist, and has no intention of just falling in line with Talen’s plans. The guy may be seriously hot, but hey, she has stuff to do.
Mia: LOL! Must be hard for an alpha not to be the center of their own universe. And speaking of hard, you’re a mentors for one of the Writing with the Stars Contestants. What’s been the hardest thing about being that?
Rebecca: My mentee is Maeve Greyson, who writes about sexy Scottish males and their loves. I’m not the most patient person, and waiting until next spring to find out the winner is so difficult. Also, we found out that Maeve made it past the first round, yet couldn’t tell anyone for an entire week until it was announced! So the wait is always the hardest part.
Mia: Let’s learn a little more about you, Rebecca. What’s your favorite TV show? Movie? Ice Cream? Hobby? Guilty pleasure?
Rebecca: Last season I just fell in love with “HAVEN” which is on the SyFy channel. It’s based on a book by Stephen king about this town with paranormal happenings. The characters are fantastic and the ending hook of the season was truly amazing.
My favorite movie is an old movie called “Life with Father” starring Irene Dunn and William Powell. A very young Elizabeth Taylor has a minor part. The movie is based on a nonfiction book written by Clarence Daye junior. It’s a cute movie and a definite pick-me-up when necessary.
Let’s see…one favorite ice cream? I’d have to go with Mint Chocolate Chip. Hobby? Um…I golf, snowmobile, jet ski, stuff like that. And my guilty pleasure would be the annual trip to Las Vegas I take with my mom and sisters. We play the slots and some blackjack. Sometimes we remember to eat.
Rebecca Zanetti has worked as an art curator, Senate aide, lawyer, college professor and a hearing examiner – only to culminate it all in stories about vampires and science.
