Do you believe in Fate?

My Moving Party is celebrating a couple of things–the move to my new pen name and my new publisher, Kensington. I’m thrilled to be a new Brava author and would love to introduce you to some of the other fantastic writers from that imprint.

Rebecca Zanetti, a paranormal author, and I sat down over a cup of cyber-coffee for a quick chat recently. Glad you’re here to join us!

Mia: Can you tell us about why you write, Rebecca? What draws you to paranormal stories?

Rebecca: First I’d like to thank Mia for having me here today! Well, that’s an interesting question about why I write. I guess I write to let the voices in my head come out. Paranormal stories are fun to write because there’s no limit—you can create any world you want. For instance, the idea of stone cold vampires with no heat never interested me. So my vamps are hot blooded and enjoy a nice glass of wine once in a while.

Mia: Oh yay! I love a guy with a pulse! Other than that why will we love your hero?

Rebecca: The hero in FATED is Talen Kayrs and he’s the strategic planner for the entire vampire nation. He’s a true alpha and is genuinely confused when things don’t go his way. And by things, I mean the heroine, Cara. She’s a single mom, a scientist, and has no intention of just falling in line with Talen’s plans. The guy may be seriously hot, but hey, she has stuff to do.

Mia: LOL! Must be hard for an alpha not to be the center of their own universe. And speaking of hard, you’re a mentors for one of the Writing with the Stars Contestants. What’s been the hardest thing about being that?

Rebecca: My mentee is Maeve Greyson, who writes about sexy Scottish males and their loves. I’m not the most patient person, and waiting until next spring to find out the winner is so difficult. Also, we found out that Maeve made it past the first round, yet couldn’t tell anyone for an entire week until it was announced! So the wait is always the hardest part.

Mia: Let’s learn a little more about you, Rebecca. What’s your favorite TV show? Movie? Ice Cream? Hobby? Guilty pleasure?

Rebecca: Last season I just fell in love with “HAVEN” which is on the SyFy channel. It’s based on a book by Stephen king about this town with paranormal happenings. The characters are fantastic and the ending hook of the season was truly amazing.

My favorite movie is an old movie called “Life with Father” starring Irene Dunn and William Powell. A very young Elizabeth Taylor has a minor part. The movie is based on a nonfiction book written by Clarence Daye junior. It’s a cute movie and a definite pick-me-up when necessary.

Let’s see…one favorite ice cream? I’d have to go with Mint Chocolate Chip. Hobby? Um…I golf, snowmobile, jet ski, stuff like that. And my guilty pleasure would be the annual trip to Las Vegas I take with my mom and sisters. We play the slots and some blackjack. Sometimes we remember to eat.

So, today I’m wondering about other people’s guilty pleasures. (Also if anyone else watched HAVEN.) Leave a comment and I’ll pick one random commenter to win an ARC of FATED.

OOPS! Yes I do believe in fate. I grew up with my hubby. At 12 yrs old, I chased after him,(but he ran from me) but then I had baby fat, so they called it. When I turned 16, ooh la la, I looked fab……..so he asked me out, I went on 2 dates, then blew him off. He rode up and down my street. My mom would tell me, he#39;s waring out the road. LOLbr /br /I broke it off, then when I turned 18 and he 19, he asked me again, we dated, married, have 2 grown sons, grandsons, married now 40 yrs……..yes, I believe in fate……

Enjoyed the interview, Rebecca and Mia. I haven#39;t caught on to Haven, although I do admit to Fringe. My guilty pleasure? I love quot;goodquot; crab rangoon. And in our city there#39;s a frozen custard franchise (Andy#39;s) that has a to-die-for Turtle Sundae. When I have something to celebrate, I like to indulge in that–even tho I#39;m trying super hard to cut calories.br /br /Mia, how do you do it–give up all those luscious things? I#39;m proud for you. br /br /Rebecca, Fated sounds dandy. Looking forward to it. Mia–May#39;s a looong way off for your next one :)br /Good Luck!!br /Barb Bettis

Hi Rebecca! Great to see you and so excited about your release *squee*br /br /Guilty pleasure? To be honest, I don#39;t really have any. Most of my pleasures are all out in the open (as perverted as that sounds), but if I can get my hands on it, I will kill myself eating Baskin Robbins World Class Chocolate Ice Cream. OMG *swoon* Best. Ice. Cream. EVER! ;)

  19. Runere McLain says:

FATED sounds absolutely intriguing, Rebecca! Look for it to be a favorite!br /br /Most of my married friends complain about being bored with their partners. Guess my guilty pleasure is how much I love sharing things with my husband. (Even after 26 years I still LIKE him!) Guess that#39;s why I love Romance! br /br /You#39;re one busy woman, writing OR playing. LOL Nice to see how much you enjoy both. Thanks for sharing with us today.

  21. Rebecca says:

Mary Ann: I definitely believe in karma! It gives the world a sense of balance, I think. Thanks for dropping by today! :)

  22. Rebecca says:

Nynke: That#39;s hilarious. I read a blog or two during my office hours as well. It keeps the day interesting. Thanks for commenting!

  23. Rebecca says:

Hi Rhiannon: I SO agree about a nice fire making the perfect evening! I live in the pacific northwest, and our temperature highs are supposed to be around 22 degrees F next week…so a fire is a must. Thanks for commenting today! :)

  24. Rebecca says:

Corrina: Hi there! YAY! Someone else who watched HAVEN. Could you believe the ending for the season? I was shocked. And of course, I loved it! Thanks for dropping by today!

  25. Nynke says:

Thanks, Mia – it#39;s not a great risk at the moment because my officemates are also good friends, but who knows what my next office will look like!

  26. MiaMarlowe says:

Hey Jazzie! I#39;m glad you found my blog. Hope you#39;ll drop by often. We have a terrific core of regular commenters and I#39;m always happy when they use my place to chat!

  27. MiaMarlowe says:

Mary Ann–I had a wonderful time in Holland, thanks for asking. I#39;m hopeful for William and Kate. At least they aren#39;t starting out with a Camilla skulking in the wings.

  28. MiaMarlowe says:

Nynke–I#39;ll make sure never to put anything that blasts music when you log onto the site. I#39;ve heard some people who do a little websurfing at work get busted when a site starts singing to them. So your secret will be safe with me.;-)

  29. MiaMarlowe says:

Rhiannon–Like Rebecca, I would have named Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream as my guilty pleasure, but I#39;ve been off sugar, yeast and a few other things since early September. Amazingly enough, I miss bread more than ice cream. And I confess while I was in Amsterdam I did cheat and have a few sandwiches on dark rich crusty bread. Yum!

  30. MiaMarlowe says:

Thanks, Corrina. I#39;m very jazzed about writing for Kensington.

  31. Jazzie Casas says:

Hi there I am one of many a href=”http://www.singlemomfinancialhelp.com/forum/” rel=”nofollow”single moms/a and I find your site very interesting. I hope I have much time each day to drop by and check your site for recent post.

  32. Mary Anne Landers says:

Thank you for the interview, Mia and Rebecca.br /br /I don#39;t have any guilty pleasures. I have so little time and opportunity for anything pleasurable that when I get it, I refuse to feel guilty.br /br /To answer your question, do I believe in Fate? No. I#39;m a Buddhist, so I believe in karma. We create our own causes and get our own effects. Nobody else creates a person#39;s destiny.br /br /BTW, what do you think about the news about William and Kate?br /br /Hope you#39;re enjoying your travels in Europe.

  33. Nynke says:

I love romances about scientists – Fated sounds good! Thanks for sharing, Rebecca.br /br /My guilty pleasures would definitely never include anything where I#39;d forget to eat. They do include chocolate, cheesecake and reading this blog during office hours :).

  34. Rhiannon Mills says:

I believe in fate! It#39;s been proven to me time and time again recently…br /br /I also have guilty pleasures (who doesn#39;t? lol). I can#39;t get enough Cherry Garcia ice cream and I have to drive 45 minutes to get it, but it#39;s worth the trip and the gas money to get a pint! A good book, Cherry Garcia, and a good fire in my fireplace…couldn#39;t ask for a better evening! ;)

  35. Corrina says:

Mia – Congratulations on your move!br /Rebecca – Great interview! I absolutely LOVE Haven. I was hooked from the first show and can#39;t wait until the new season starts. Fated sounds great and I#39;ll be putting it on my book wish list. Congratulations on your debut release.
