Plaid to the Bone Celebration~Day Two!

Gerard ButlerWelcome to another day of cyber-partying, my lovelies! Today while we celebrate my 20th published work Plaid to the Bone, we’re going to be talking heroes.

I don’t always mentally cast my books, but for Plaid to the Bone I thought of the totally watchable Gerard Butler for Adam Cameron, Laird of Bonniebroch. He’s tall, broad-shouldered, and has that devastatingly charming Scottish accent. Best of all, he looks terrific in a kilt!

But what sort of heart does Adam Cameron have? He agrees to wed Cait Grant to settle a dispute with her father. But even though their marriage is an arranged one, he’s determined to make a match of it.  Before their ceremony, he sends Cait a costly gift and this note:

My dear Cait,
The pearls were my mother’s. They have belonged to the Lady of Bonniebroch for as long as the tower has stood. Now, they are yours.
My old tutor taught me that a pearl is formed because something has irritated the oyster, a grain of sand perhaps, and over time the oyster coats nacre around this irritant until it’s too smooth to bother its host. In the process, it also becomes too beautiful to hide away in an oyster.
We’re a bit like a pearl, you and me. We started by irritating each other but will, I believe, over time be left with a thing of beauty shimmering between us.
I ken that our union is not by your choice. Nor mine. But before God and man, I promise to love you, and I mean to keep that promise. If my body and my will purpose a thing, my heart will follow.
Until then, I am content to be . . .

Your grain of sand,
Adam Cameron, Laird of Bonniebroch

Too bad Cait has sworn a blood oath to kill him, isn’t it?

Vanessa Kelly

My friend Vanessa Kelly is a USA Today Bestseller who was named one of the “New Stars of Historical Romance” by Booklist. She won the Maggie Medallion and the book she’s sharing with us today was nominated for an RT Reviewers’ Choice Award for Best Regency Historical Romance. Vanessa is one of my Rock*It Reads buddies, a Canadian (they really are incredibly nice!) and when she’s not writing incredible Regencies, she’s teaming up with her husband to write sports romance as VK Sykes!

Vanessa is helping me celebrate the release of Plaid to the Bone by offering a copy of her My Favorite Countess to a randomly chosen commenter!

Spirited, stubborn, and entirely irresistible…

My-Favorite-Countess2-186x300She is difficult, demanding, and at times, quite fierce.  And Dr. John Blackmore can’t take his eyes off her.  The Countess of Randolph is the most striking woman he has ever seen…and the most infuriating patient he has ever tended.

Mired in responsibility, Bathsheba doesn’t have time to convalesce in the country.  She should be in London, hunting for a wealthy new lover to pay off her late husband’s vast debts, not dallying with a devastatingly handsome doctor.

But it is only a matter of time until the good doctor and the obstinate countess will have to contend with the sparks that fly between them.

Improper Gentlemen

After the release of Touch of a Thief, my wonderful editor at Kensington, Alicia Condon, put me together with Diane Whiteside and Maggie Robinson for a fun anthology called Improper Gentlemen!

Improper GentlemenUnsuitable. Forbidden. Oh-so-seductive. These gentlemen are hardly respectable. But they are the very, very best at being bad…

Lord Aidan Stonemere didn’t go from prison to a title by playing by society’s rules. If he wants something, he takes it. Rosalinde Burke didn’t object to being taken. Once. To keep her from marrying a proper viscount, Aidan will do whatever it takes to remind her how deliciously good being improper feels…

This anthology came out in August 2010 and now one lucky commenter is going to receive a copy of Improper Gentlemen. And someone else will win Vanessa’s My Favorite Countess. Don’t forget that each time you comment, you’re also entered in the Grand Prize drawing for a Kindle Paperwhite! Be sure to drop back by every day through September 15th! Winners will be announced September 16th.

Here’s our discussion question for today: Who would you cast as the perfect romance hero?

  1. rhonda says:

I dont watch a lot of movies and I don’t keep up with actors. I’m too busy reading and due to the cost of cable television, I had mine cancelled. Any sexy actor would be fine with me. : )

  2. Janie McGaugh says:

Gerard Butler, Richard Armitage, Chris Hemsworth, and Hugh Jackman.

  3. Danny says:

OMG, that is a really hard question. I would choose Nick Wechsler. He plays Jack in the TV series “Revenge”

  4. Linda Thum says:

Richard Armitage. I love his beautiful voice & expressive eyes.

  5. Theresa Fischer says:

I am being introduced to so many new authors. I am going to be reading lots of new books! Thank you.

  6. Hi Vanessa! So nice to see you here! Perfect hero, huh? So many men, so little time! I’m going with Scott Caan with that gorgeous red/blond hair. Is he even more good-looking than his dad, James Caan?

  7. Sandy Xiong says:

Honestly, I’m not into movie as much as books so I can’t imagine anyone playing a romantic hero. I just don’t want them to ruin the character that I have envision to look perfect

  8. Quilt Lady says:

I will have to go with Jeffery Dean Morgan. I think he is awesome and would be a great hero.

  9. Jessica V. says:

I adore Armie Hammer- when hes got that rugged 5 o’clock shadow. His voice,…. is the first gentleman’s voice who made me pay attention

  10. Rhonda Kirby says:

On second thought Jason Momoa from Game of thrones would be excellent as would Hugh Jackman!!!

  11. Rhonda Kirby says:

I would choose either Henry Cavill or Gerard Butler in a kilt. Sam Elliott is another that has that special something.

  12. Armenia says:

Who would I cast as the perfect hero? It would have to be Sean Connery, all at different ages he’s been an amazing figure of a man.

He has a romantic heart, soulful eyes, full kissable lips, broad shoulders. And besides he does look great in a kilt. *smiles*

  13. CrystalGB says:

I love Gerard Butler. Just watched his movie Olympus Has Fallen and it was awesome.

  14. Laurie W G says:

I would cast hockey star, Mark Fisher, Carrie Underwood’s husband. I’ve heard that he’s super nice, has a great smile, he’s handsome and athletic! Tall, dark and handsome wins for me!

  15. Maureen says:

I am terrible with the names of actors but one I do like is Nathan Fillion from Castle.

  16. Mary Preston says:

I would cast Hugh Jackman in absolutely everything.

    1. Mia says:

Didn’t you love him in Kate & Leopold?

  17. Ada says:

I think Alen O’Loughlin from Hawaii Five-0 or Stephen Amell from Arrow would be perfect choices for my heroes. They both have these amazing eyes and smoldering looks….sigh!

    1. Mia says:

Alex is very fine, but I’ve sort of given up on Hawaii 5-O. The writers have let the characters down too many times, IMO.

  18. Anita H. says:

I can totally picture Gerard Butler as a Scottish Laird! I’m going with a Superheroes theme here by casting Chris Helmsworth (Thor)or Henry Cavill (Superman) as the perfect romance hero. They both are so yummy! ;)

    1. Mia says:

Love Chris! I’ve pictured him for a couple of my heroes. Erik in Silk Dreams & Brandr in Lord of Fire & Ice.

  19. JessS says:

Oooh well I’m kind of in love with James McAvoy’s face so I’d have to go with him.

    1. Mia says:

      Another “new to me” hero!

  20. Jakki L. says:

    Oh, I like Adam’s letter! :)
I would cast Henry Cavill or Dylan McDermott as a hero! Yumm-my! ;)

    1. Mia says:

I knew both of their faces when I googled them, but hadn’t connected their names.

  21. Marcy Shuler says:

Gerard Butler works well, especially as a kilted hero. ;) I also like Jude Law.

The letter Adam wrote to Cait was so sweet. He can be my grain of sand any day. We just won’t mention him to my hubby. LOL

    1. Mia says:

Jude Law has great range. Did you see him in Gattica?

  22. catslady says:

I’m going with Hugh Jackman – he seems to be able to turn himself into any character!

    1. Mia says:

I like him in just about everything I’ve seen him in. Except for one unfortunate movie with Nicole Kidman which wasn’t worthy of either of them.

  23. Who wouldn’t think of Gerard Butler? That man is seriously yummy.

    1. Mia says:

      We think alike, SD!

  24. bn100 says:

    Vin Diesel

    1. Mia says:

Who proves bald is beautiful! Looking forward to the new Riddick story.

  25. Glittergirl says:

Oh I go for the Scots every time =D. Gerald Butler was an awesome choice. I love Sean Connery and outside the Scots is Nathan Fillion (Castle & Firefly).

Please enter me for Vanessa’s book. I have Improper Gentlemen and your giveaway copy should go to someone who doesn’t have a copy. I can’t wait too start Plaid to the Bone =D

    1. Mia says:

Nathan Fillion is a fav of mine too. I had him in mind for Lord Nathaniel in One Night with a Rake.

  26. erinf1 says:

I’m also gonna have to vote for Gerard Butler or Jeremy Renner :) Thanks for sharing!

    1. Mia says:

Gerard has almost universal appeal, doesn’t he?

  27. Tom Sellek is my Favorite guy for anything, although I am not much of a movie fan…

    1. Mia says:

Love Tom Selleck! He was the only real man in 3 Men & a Baby, IMO.

  28. Mary Anne Landers says:

Who would I cast as the perfect romance hero? Depends on the story, the mood, the purpose of the overall work. Not to mention who’s available. And how much money he wants!

In short, I don’t know. But it’s nice to consider the options!

    1. Mia says:

This is pure fantasy, Mary Anne. I assume the guy is available and will work for me for free! LOL!

  29. Cate S says:

I can’t think of any one who is an improvement on those already suggested!!

    1. Mia says:

      Thanks for dropping by, Cate.

  30. may says:

The guy who plays Damon on Vampire Diaries. I really like Ian!

    1. Mia says:

#2 Daughter is a Vampire Diaries fan. Since I’m not into the whole undead thing, I don’t know the characters, but I’m sure Damon is hot. I mean, he couldn’t be named Damon if he wasn’t!

  31. BETH SHEEHE says:

My choices would have to be Gerard Butler or Julian McMahon. They are both dreamy to look at.

    1. Mia says:

Had to google Julian McMahon. You’re right. He’s very fine to look upon.

  32. Azucena Rodriguez says:

I’m ashamed to say that I had always cast the same actor play the hero in all the books I read lol. Alfonso Herrera, a Mexican actor. What can I say? I’m in love…

Lately though, I’ve started to go back and forth between him and Matt Bomer. Yum!

    1. Mia Marlowe says:

It’s ok to have just one, Azucena. I always tell my DH he’s really the hero!

      1. Azucena Rodriguez says:

I think that is wise of you *wink, wink* lol

  33. Sheryl N says:

I have to narrow this down to not make it so long. I love Ryan Reynolds, Gerard Butler, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Chris Helmsworth, and Christian Bale. I love guys that have an accent…

    1. Mia Marlowe says:

Chris is a favorite of mine! Love it when the DH wants to take me to a comic book movie as long as Thor is in it.

  34. Vicky CK says:

I like them tall, dark & w/ great shoulders… and accents are always good ;)
Gerald Buttler is a great choice; Hugh Jackman is a fav of mine; Antonio Banderas is another who fits well. Aly P is right, we could get in trouble with this type of list…

    1. Mia Marlowe says:

      Oh, yes, Antonio! Great voice.

    2. Aly P says:

      What problems! *wiggles eyebrows*

  35. Aly P says:

Gerald Buttler is great! I can’t choose but a few of them would be Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Cavil, Bradley Cooper and I am stopping now :D

  36. Elizabeth says:

I recently discovered Rupert Penry-Jones in the BBC version of Persuasion. He made such a gorgeous Captain Wentworth. And of course Richard Armitage makes a great brooding hero. François Arnaud (Cesare from Borgias) is absolutely gorgeous too. So hard to just pick one…

    1. Mia Marlowe says:

Richard Armitage works every time he’s tried! I’ll certainly consider Rupert next time I do a blond hero, though I confess my personal bias for dark haired men usually wins out.

  37. Sarah Meral says:

Oh, that´s not easy to decide. But I would something with Patrick Dempsey or Hugh Jackman :D

    1. Mia Marlowe says:

Both good choices, though I’m partial to Hugh. ;-)

  38. Susie B. says:

Gerard Butler is a really good choice! I also love Henry Cavill and Alex O’Laughlin. Such Hotties!!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. Mia Marlowe says:

Wonderful suggestions, Susie B. Will consider them for upcoming heroes!
